Can lightning strike twice and movie magic be recreated? That's what
Lifetime are hoping with their all-black TV movie remake of the
Steel Magnolias.
The classic 1989 weeper is getting a face-lift with an impressive all
African-American cast including
Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott and
Alfre Woodard, chronicling the lives of six
Louisiana women who gather at
Truvy's beauty shop to gossip, laugh, cry and most importantly make themselves look fabulous.
The original film about the close-knit group of friends provided
Julia Roberts her first
Oscar nomination for
Best Supporting Actress and a
Golden Globe win, so only time will tell if this updated version will garner the same critical acclaim for these lovely ladies.
